Aster Aweke (Arabic: አስቴር አወቀ) is a popular Ethiopian singer from the tribe Amhara. Aster Aweke was born in Asela, Ethiopia and started her career started in 1977 with the release of her debut album. Aster Aweke rose to fame for the intimacy of her sounds. Some of her popular albums are Hagere and Fikir.

    Angela Sibongile Makeba, better known as Bongi Makeba, was a South African singer and songwriter and the only child of the renowned singer and activist Miriam Makeba. As a teenager, Bongi started to sing and learned to play the guitar. In the early 1970s, Bongi embarked on her own musical career and released her debut album, "Blow on Wind," in 1980. The album was critically and commercially successful. Following this feat, she embarked on tours while also collaborating with her mother. Tragically, Bongi's promising career was cut short when she passed away in 1985. She is remembered for her beautiful voice and her commitment to social justice.

    Evoloko Atshuamo, known as Evoloko Jocker or Lay Lay, is a renowned Congolese soukous singer. He rose to fame as the frontman and band leader of Zaiko Langa Langa, a prominent soukous band in the late 1960s. Evoloko, alongside talented musicians like Papa Wemba and Mavuela Somo, pioneered the popular cavacha sound and dance style. His exceptional songwriting, electrifying performances, and dance skills solidified Zaiko's position as the country's top band for young people. Evoloko briefly left Zaiko and formed Isifi Lokole, but later founded Langa Langa Stars alongside former Zaiko members and Dindo Yogo. Despite lineup changes, the band achieved significant success. Evoloko continued his musical journey with solo projects and collaborations, including occasional reunions with Zaiko Langa Langa.

    Mkhatshani Daniel Shirinda, popularly known as M.D. Shirinda, was a veteran South African singer-songwriter, and pioneer of Xitsonga music. Shirinda's music career started in the 1960s. Despite facing challenges early in his career when producers didn't believe his music would sell, Shirinda's album release in 1976 gave him his career break. Shirinda also performed live with his backing band, the Gaza sisters, which includes his wives. With a career spanning several decades, Shirinda recorded over 764 songs before his demise on June 25, 2017.
